In 2024, the Fort Vancouver Rose Society is enjoying its 71st year of growing and celebrating the rose. All are WELCOME to our meetings and events as described below. Take special note of our upcoming June 29, 2024 ROSE SHOW, our 69th annual show in Vancouver, Washington. (NOTE: Until the 2024 Rose Show Exhibitor Book is published, we'll keep the 2023 Rose Show Exhibitor Book on this webpage as an example of the rules and guidelines FVRS follows each year. See all you exhibitors in 2024 for another fabulous show!)
Be sure to also see our "Ring Around the Roses" newsletter (on our Home Page menu under "MORE"). The February newsletter will be published soon and will highlight what's being planned for the first months of the year.
NEXT MEETING: ANNUAL ROSE AUCTION!
WooHoo...! It's that time again when FVRS holds its annual Rose Auction in March to support the Rose Show in June. The 2024 Rose Auction will take place Thursday, March 7, 7 p.m., in the Parish Hall at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 426 East Fourth Plain Blvd. in Vancouver.
This is a fabulous time for you--and every rose lover--to purchase a beautiful rose for years of enjoyment! To date, we have hybrid teas, floribundas and miniature roses to sell. We're looking for more of these varieties and others (climbers, grandifloras, old garden roses, etc.) to be donated by February 25 to be included into the auction presentation.
To donate a rose for the auction, please contact Louis and Sally Rossetto by February 25 at firstname.lastname@example.org or call them at 360-573-8033. Again, please email or call them by February 25 so your donated rose can be pictured in a PowerPoint presentation at the auction.
The evening's program will also include a Pot o' Gold 50/50 drawing. So, bring your cash, check or credit card AND your friends and family to have fun at the auction in support of our annual rose show. Doors will open at 6 p.m. when donated roses can be dropped off at the side entrance of the Parish Hall. The auction will start promptly at 7 p.m. See you there!
COMING IN APRIL and MAY:
Thursday, April 4: The FVRS General Membership meeting will feature a discussion panel on "How to Become a Consulting Rosarian." The panel will include experienced rose growers who will provide information on how to apply to the American Rose Society to become an ARS Consulting Rosarian.
Thursday, May 2: Our 2024 Silent Auction, led by FVRS First Vice President Carol Adams, was a huge success. Carol is hoping for a repeat this year! Start now to look for items at home or while "out and about" errand running that would be great for the auction, which is a fundraiser for our 2024 Rose Show. Not sure about an item?... then contact Carol at 805-404-2011 with any questions. Also, think about asking friends or family if they might have items to donate or, if possible, consider asking a small business to donate a gift card, product or service to the auction. We're looking forward to a fun evening on May 2. Bring those friends and family mentioned above, too!
The society is thrilled to, once again, provide Arrangement Workshops to its membership and the public this year. Arrangements Chair Julie Goggin held the first workshop of 2024 on Wednesday, January 31, at 2 p.m. We're grateful to FVRS member Kathy Fry who has offered her heated garage to host these workshops (13108 NE 22nd Street in Vancouver)!
A huge thanks to Julie for spearheading this renewed effort in our society to teach floral arrangements with our beloved roses. She has sparked the talent in many and given confidence to her workshop students, many of whom exhibited at the 2023 FVRS 68th Annual Rose Show and our In-House Rose Show last year in September.
All the spring workshops will be at 2 p.m. at the home of Kathy Fry (address above):

LEARN TO PRUNE!
Consulting Rosarian Co-Members-at-Large Jim Swenson and Louis Rossetto have arranged the following rose seminars at local nurseries. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with these businesses, devoted to offering the best products for us to use in our gardens.
Rose Care Seminars - Spring 2024:
Saturday, February 24, at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Yard 'n Garden Land
1501 NE 102nd Street, Vancouver 98686
Saturday, February 24, at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Tsugawa Nursery & Greenhouse
410 E. Scott Avenue, Woodland 98674
Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Dennis' 7 Dees
10006 Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver 98664
Jim and Louis have announced the first workday at the Esther Short Park Rose Garden will be Friday, March 8, beginning at 9 a.m. FVRS helps to maintain this community garden as well as the rose garden at the Covington House. We do this for the city for the enjoyment of its citizens.
Last year we had such a good response in volunteers toward helping to prune and maintain the nearly 100 roses at the Esther Short Park Rose Garden as well as the roses in the Coventon House Rose Garden. YOU WILL LEARN ALOT about pruning if you participate in these workdays... don't miss this valuable learning experience!
We thank ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS as many hands make light work!

For the 2023 FVRS Rose Show, the EXHIBITOR 2023 FVRS Rose Show Book focused on information of interest to just the exhibitor. On the day of the 2023 FVRS Rose Show, June 24th, the society provided a dedicated VISITOR 2023 FVRS Rose Show Book to all the visitors who arrived during our show hours of 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Exhibitors will find the printable EXHIBITOR 2023 FVRS Rose Show Book attached below. The book includes General Instructions for both the Horticulture and the Artistic Design segments of the show. If there were any differences between the EXHIBITOR 2023 FVRS Rose Show Book PDF file web copy and the hard copy distributed at the show, the hard copy was the official book.
Until next year's EXHIBITOR 2024 FVRS Rose Show is written, this site will provide the 2023 show book for exhibitors below as an example of the rules and guidelines followed by FVRS. See all of you in 2024 when FVRS provides another exciting and beautiful rose show for all the community!
